Overheard at transport market

“Why Government has shifted the liability of collection and payment of service Tax from service provider to service receiver( ie. Consigner or consignee in the organized sector) in case of Goods Transport Agency”

First reaction: May be because the majority of consigners and consignees in the organized sector has already been registered with service tax and collection of tax would be easy”
Second reaction: “May be, because Govt. fears that collection of Service Tax from Transport Agencies is difficult they can strike at any time”
Third reaction : No, No, as we too have a value ……….the nuisance value.

Overheard at vegetable market

First one: “Why Government has exempted, only transport of food vegetables, eggs or milk from the scope of service tax?”
Second one: “Perhaps, Because if this time the truck owners go on strike, then at least these items should be available in the market _ _ _ and ‘Government could also be checking rising inflation by this as we cannot stock the perishables for long.”

Assessing Officer: Are you a consigner or a consignee?
Trader: How does it matter, Sir, we traders are just like watermelon.
Assessing Officer: Why do you say so?
Trader: Sir, whether knife falls on the watermelon or watermelon falls on the knife, ultimately watermelon turns into pieces. You know, goods transport services treat as a service provider whereas we are service receivers. You have also changed the rules for us.
