HUMORS

WHAT COMES FIRST?

Can any body guess?

What comes first this year?

Monsoon in your town
or
Levy of service on new services.

Service Tax Counsellor feels, even God can’t take a call and guess.

Service Tax on Construction of Complex

One builder: Why it is so that complex means only such buildings or premises having more than 12 units?
Other one: May be because any thing upto 12 is not so complex.
First one: No, it can’t be true, I have only one business and service tax is indeed a painful and complex tax.
Other one: OK, then we will have to check whether we had any Santa / Banta to draft the service tax law.

Service Tax on Nine New Services

Service Provider (to Excise Officer) : What is the date of applicability of service tax on new services?

Excise Officer : It is 16th June 2005 and you must start charging service Tax w.e.f.
16.06.2005

Service Provider : But my tax consultant told me the date as 16.06.2005 or date on
which stay (if any) is vacated, whichever is later.

Service tax on business auxiliary services

  • Finance Minister proposes, common man disposes
  • No, Finance Minister imposes, service provider opposes

Contractor : Will I be liable to service tax
Tax Consultant : It depends on what do you do.
Contractor : I undertake contracts for cleaning, excavation, site development, demolition, repairs, construction etc.
Tax Consultant : Service tax will be levied on all such services
Contactor : Our Government is not wise. They drafted so many definitions. They could have levied service tax on contractors alone – all would have been covered.
Tax Consultant : You don’t understand, something should be left for us also.
Contractor : What?
Tax Consultant : Tax planning and interpretation _ _ _ and our fees.

STC Reader: What’s the new humour this week?
STC Responds: Wait a while. We are seeking an opinion as to whether such humour service is taxable or not.
